On 20 July 2026, the Cockroach Janata Party executed what no one thought a "meme party" ever could — a full-scale march on the Parliament of India. From the protest site at Jantar Mantar, thousands of registered cockroaches, accompanied by opposition leaders, celebrities, activists, and ordinary citizens, marched toward Sansad Bhavan carrying the five demands of the movement.
What followed was a day that would be etched into India's democratic history. The Delhi Police, deployed in massive numbers, attempted to stop the march near Parliament Street. Tear gas was fired. Lathi charge was ordered. Students — many of them NEET aspirants, unemployed graduates, and first-time protesters — were injured in the police crackdown.
But the cockroaches didn't run. They had survived 320 million years. They could survive tear gas.
The images of students bleeding, coughing through tear gas, holding CJP banners while being beaten by police went viral. Every major news channel — NDTV, India Today, BBC, Al Jazeera, Reuters, CNN — carried the footage. International human rights organisations condemned the violence. Opposition leaders who had been at Jantar Mantar stood in Parliament and demanded answers.
The pressure was immense. The optics were devastating. A government that called its youth "cockroaches" was now using tear gas on them. Within days, the first domino fell.

Lathi charge — the colonial-era practice of police beating civilians with batons — was deployed against unarmed protesters carrying nothing more dangerous than cardboard signs and mobile phones.
Students were injured. Some suffered head injuries from lathi blows. Others experienced severe respiratory distress from tear gas inhalation. Journalists covering the march were also targeted, with several reporting damage to their equipment and physical intimidation.
The violence was not just disproportionate — it was self-defeating. Every tear gas canister that was fired became a viral photograph. Every injured student became a story. Every lathi blow became evidence of a government that would rather attack its own children than answer their questions.
As Abhijeet Dipke said from the protest site: "They brought tear gas. We brought truth. Let history decide which one lasts longer."
The police action was condemned by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the UN Human Rights Council, and press freedom organisations worldwide. Multiple opposition parties filed motions in Parliament demanding an independent inquiry into the use of force against peaceful student protesters.

Under immense pressure from the CJP-led student movement, sustained protests at Jantar Mantar, the 20 July Sansad March, international media attention, and cross-party parliamentary condemnation, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation.
Pradhan had been the face of the government's education policy during the NEET paper leak scandal that affected 24 lakh students, the CBSE rechecking fee controversy, and the broader failure to reform India's examination system. His resignation marked the first time a satirical political movement in India forced a Cabinet-level resignation.
This was CJP's Demand #2: Education Reform — partially fulfilled. The movement's manifesto had specifically demanded the Education Minister's resignation, criminal accountability for the NEET leak, and abolition of CBSE rechecking fees. The resignation was the first step.

Following the Education Minister's resignation, Sonam Wangchuk — the legendary Ladakhi engineer, education reformer, and real-life inspiration behind 3 Idiots — ended his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
Wangchuk had begun his hunger strike in solidarity with CJP's education reform demands. His presence at the protest site had transformed what began as a digital movement's physical outpost into a national conscience epicentre. His hunger strike had drawn sustained media coverage and added moral weight to the cockroach movement that no politician could match.
Breaking his fast, Wangchuk addressed the crowd at Jantar Mantar: "This is not my victory. This is not CJP's victory. This is the victory of every student who was told they don't matter. Every graduate who was called a cockroach. Every young Indian who refused to accept that the system's failure is their personal flaw."
He cautioned that the resignation was only the beginning: "One minister leaving is not reform. Reform is when every student in India — from Ladakh to Kanyakumari — has access to fair examinations, quality education, and a government that doesn't sell their future for political convenience."
Wangchuk urged the movement to continue pushing for all five demands in the CJP Manifesto and committed to remaining an advisor to the Swarm Council.
